Interior of the ACG dry forest (in the 6-month dry season) as seen from a distance in the previous slide (DHJanzen100009.jpg). The columnar cacti (Stenocereus aragonii) photosynthesize strongly and grow in height as well during the dry season (presumably surviving on stored water) when the broadleaf plants over them have dropped their leaves. In the rainy season this view would be solid green and deep shade.
