One fine tapir dump - perhaps 2-3 kg of dung still fresh enough to be recognizable, and not yet found by a Liomys mouse. It looks a lot like horse dung - a close relative - but it is easily distinguished because when broken open, the plant fragments are quite large. A tapir has high-crowned molars much like yours and does not mill food much more finely than do you, but a horse has a molar mill much more like a pair of coarse files laid one on top of the other and can/does mill its food quite finely. It is commonplace to find woody stems as much as 1.5 cm long and 2-3 mm in diameter in tapir dung. So, we scoop up the entire dung and wash it find what is in image DHJanzen100846.jpg below.
