In a separate chamber the mouse has piled leaf fragments for a (soft?) couch. These are not food fragments or waste (Liomys does not eat leaves) but rather, dry leaf parts deliberately brought in by the mouse. But close inspection of this material reveales a very interesting process. Intermixed with the seed fragments and leaf bedding, are whole seeds. The interpretation is that when hungry, the mouse goes to a cache and brings some seeds to the nest. But, does it eat them then?
