A pig can put on a ten cm thick layer of fat in a couple of weeks. In short, what a wild pig did when confronted with a mast crop of acorns or a bamboo seed crop was to store very rapidly an enormous amount of fat (food reserves) as well as crank up the reproductive cycle.
