Pigs are quite amazing animals. This gaunt adult pig in a Mexican farmyard (it has a forked stick on its neck so that it (theoretically) cannot run rapidly through a barbed wire fence) can live for months to years on nothing more than scraps, grass blades, carrion scavenged, and a few seeds, fruits and roots/tubers. But when presented with a bamboo seed crop - or a mast crop of acorns, dipterocarp seeds, or whatever - can they ever be a pig (see image DHJanzen100420.jpg below).
