The layers of muscle and connective tissues are bound together by thick strong ligaments (or sinews as the Indians would have called them). If you were taking this bear apart not out of curiosity, but because you had just taken it as prey and were determined to get the most of it, each of these ligaments would be collected and used as extremely strong binding materials (as when binding a stone spear head to its shaft or sewing together pieces of heavy leather). Note also the sign of broken blood vessels appearing as the dissector finally gets down to the body cavity just below the fingers of the left hand.
