Beaver also eat the storage tubers of aquatic plants, such as this water lily storage stem (Nymphaea, Nymphaeaceae) that was in the mud in the bottom of the beaver pond in image DHJanzen100883.jpg (see floating lily pads (leaves) just to the right of the beaver house). This particular plant probably had its origin in a fragment of a stem that was lost or discarded by a beaver in that house, and resprouted where it was dropped.
