This ACG valley (of the Rio Calera) has apparently never been burned or logged (the low canopy - 2-10 m in height - is due to the very low quality of the serpentine soils below the forest). Contrast this image (taken at the beginning of the dry season) with the following image (DHJanzen100786.jpg) which was taken on the same day by turning around 180 degrees and photographing the ACG valley of the Rio Potrero Grande. This latter valley has been burned during the dry season at least every several years, as well as logged, over several centuries.
