The females from the two clutches of sibling males described in DHJanzen100633.jpg and DHJanzen100634.jpg above reflect the same pattern as the males, but their color change took place 4-6 days later in the lower clutch (here, below the date cards) and hardly at all in the upper clutch. This is the kind of variation that is a normal part of nature, but also can make it very difficult to understand what is going on. If there were data only from these two clutches, and the two clutches were mixed, this variation could be enough to obscure the color shift that takes place with the beginning of the rainy season. However, after seeing the color pattern shift occur in many clutches, it is easier to understand what is pictured here as variation around a central tendency, as they say.
