Here a parachute is wrapped around the crown of a Xanthoxylum setulosum food plant, and a rust red mated female placed inside. She is sitting on the cloth in its lower left. She laid hundreds of eggs and from this came hundreds of sibling pupae, each neatly packaged in its cocoon (for this to occur required, incidentally, changing the bag to new tree crowns on several occasions, as the caterpillars ate all the leaves in the bag).
