By capturing free-ranging male Rothschildia lebeau in traps baited with virgin females, some insight can be gained into the acts of predation sustained by the males during the day. Those that are actually caught by predators are never seen again, but those that are caught and then escape may be recaptured in the traps. Here, a male displays a left hind wing snipped neatly half off by a bird bill. The bird grabbed the hind wing, the moth struggled, and left with the remainder intact (also teaching the bird to grab for the body next time). Beak marks are the most common wing damage, but at times there are clear wing punctures by monkey teeth, and monkey fingerprints on wings as well.
