Owing to their mating behavior, the males are easily trapped using virgin females as bait. This cage in the forest (in the days just before the rains begin and trees begin to leaf out) has a virgin female hanging in the middle of it, with a fine-meshed screen over the entrance to the container, so that a male cannot reach her to mate (as in DHJanzen100605.jpg above). No matter how many males arrive, she continues to call. There are two funnel-shaped entrances to the sides of the cage, and once a male has entered through this funnel, he cannot find his way out.
