A free-flying wild male Rothschildia lebeau mating with a captive female R. lebeau inside the can. He would have arrived about 10 pm the evening before, and within a few minutes (or less) of copulating, has passed all the sperm that he will pass to her. He remains in copula until the late afternoon of the following day (see below). On the undersides of his wings are identification numbers written with a marking pen (Sanford Delux seem to be the best) when he was captured the night before in a trap baited with a virgin female, and then released.
