However, in contrast to the Liomys mouse in DHJanzen100529.jpg above, THIS is what a Liomys mouse looks like. Liomys salvini is totally nocturnal, and when not out at night, it lives in a tunnel underground, a tunnel that is black as black itself. While this is really what Liomys salvini looks like, it is hard for us - 2 m tall bipedal diurnal mammals - to appreciate the animal in this morph. And, in all fairness, on a strongly moonlit night a Liomys is to some degree visible to a foraging cat, snake or owl (though in black and white) which is what selects for that color pattern. However, as you will see later, Liomys is very reluctant to be out foraging on moonlit nights. Also, a Liomys is visible on a sonogram - ask any owl or cat.
