But there was another source of vitamins, at least when they went to town to sell their bushmeat. And, what DID they do with their money? All the hunters had families far away in some other part of Cameroun. And they sent part of their money to them (I never did determine how). But a substantial part also went to a massive blowout on banana beer - how much in celebration, and how much to forget the life in the forest, I was not able to determine. This beer is made by making a pit in the ground, lining it with rock and then banana leaves, putting in a very large number of ripe peeled bananas, mashing it up, and letting it ferment. This vitamin-rich concoction is an important part of their diet, though how important I cannot say. It has undoubtedly been around since time began.
