A closer look at the bones found below the mounds in the cassava patch reveals bony scutes from crocodiles, which reveals why the hunters gave not a thought to wading waste-deep through the nearby rainforest rivers. For scale, shotgun shell is 12 gauge.

But imagine that you are an archaeologist 2000 years hence, digging about and you find this treasure trove of bones, obviously accumulated by some ancient village. Or perhaps you are an eager conservationist trying to figure out how much bushmeat is brought in of what species by the hunters. Yes, you have here a fingerprint, but it is only a small part of it. As I explained to the hunters why I found their fertilizer to be of such interest, they abruptly looked at me and said, no, this does not tell you what you think it tells you. It is only a small part of the story. And then they explained the obvious.
