Not to be outdone by their associates, bamboo seed crops were viewed as a sort of naturally-ocurring bounty. When the crop began, apparently the outlier seeding bamboos were ignored, but once the seeding got fully underway - with seed piling up inches deep on the ground - countryside peoples apparently harvested enormous quantities of bamboo seed. Considering that there have been people as seed predators in the Southeast Asian bamboo homelands for at least a half a million years, if not longer, it is a fair guess that they should be included among the swarm of seed predators to descend on a bamboo seed crop (and select for its large size - achieved through waiting long between crops - and its tight synchrony).
