How does one know that the different color patterns are indeed the same species? Actually, taxonomists studying the morphology of the beetles (and being familiar with color polymorphisms in other species), had come to the tentative conclusion that the different color morphs are probably the same species. However, the clincher is to discover that all the different color patterns are encountered mating with other color patterns, just as in this image. This is in fact a different species of Arescus from that in DHJanzen100188.jpg and DHJanzen100190.jpg
