Not only tropical islands display species impoverishment and high densities of the species that are there. However, given the overall lower species richness of northern areas, the impoverishment of islands does not stand out as strongly as it does in the tropics. This image is from the front of a lobster boat approaching Seal Island off the coast of Nova Scotia (about 45 degrees North Latitude, the equivalent of northern Minnesota).
