| Black spruce - here the evergreen covering both the flat and the slopes - have a life form that is virtually non-existent in the tropics. Whatever could select for a tall thin column of short branches covered with evergreen needles? Clearly the snow does not accumulate on it, as it would if it had a flat crown, but is that the whole story? Compare this tree crown with a tropical tree crown. | ||
