If rodents and big mammals are not seed predators on those concentrations of fallen Andira seeds (and those in the tree), then who is? Weevil larvae (Curculionidae) are notorious seed predators. Three species of Cleogonus weevils, specifically, are host-specific seed predators on Andira seeds. Here, a female Cleogonus weevil (underneath the male) is ovipositing an egg into a hole that she cut with her mandibles at the end of her long snout (you can see the snout on the male on top).
