These maturing (green) 10-15 cm long Lysiloma fruits, hanging strap-like in the sun, will mature and blow off in a high wind just as the black locust pods in image DHJanzen100961.jpg above. If these green fruits are held up to the light, they are translucent - in fact, the seeds are green. What does this imply? What happens if the offspring can do their own photosynthesis, and thereby are not totally dependent on the parent plant? You know about green peas.
